Inky had gone stiff at the voice. Now she scented the air, hacles rising slowly...the scent wasn't even remotely familiar to her. Wh-who're you?" she stammered, trying to put on a bold front, but standing rather in her bigger friend's shadow all the same. She could feel her claws scratch against the pavement, dulled by often walking across hard cement. She couldn't fight...
"Don't kill us," she squeaked.

A small, death defying grin crept onto his face. It was wolfish, almost a giver of the propositions, the battles, the truces he had experienced in his lifetime in the wild. "My name is Kuramoon. But you, you pup," He grunted, standing up, "Have my permission to call me Kur. " He stared at them with one eye. The other had a scar running across it, and it's gaze was dull and unseeing. "I have almost pure wolf blood in me. You wouldn't want to take your chances with this brute," Growled the battle-scarred malamute. He continued to glare at Inky with yellow, threatening eyes. Inky's ears had gone flat. "It's--it's Inky," she mumbled, eyes down at her shuffling paws as they scratched black ground. "I wouldn't, sir, uh, Kur, I swear!" She gave a little foolish grin.

Amber barked happily as her walker brushed a comb neatly through her fur. "Make sure you get that knot, I don't want to look like a stray y'know." She was soon strutting out of the door and onto the pavement. Auds flicked in the direction of a high-pitched bark. Gaze turned to the scene of three dogs. "Ruffians." She sighed before sitting on haunches to watch.

"Hey!! What about me?" Rommel whined looking up at the brute's maw. "And what're you doing, calling us silly and acting like your the boss? Besides, it's not like you'd /mind/ if we /were/ killed," the yellow lab protested, although not completely daring to make eye contact with Kur.

The wolfish grin remained on his face as he stared at Inky. "I'll be the strongest brute you'll ever see. Don't try and play a game of mercy with me, neither. You will lose." He sat back down, pads cooling with the freezing concrete.
"And you, you know it all idiot, if you're so up on trying to prove I'm not better than you, come up to me and prove it." He growled under his breath to Rommel, hackles raising. [/sup]

"Rommel!" Inky yelped pleadingly. "He'll kill you..." As quietlyas she could the young dog whispered, "Let's just get somewhere we can talk about this alone."

"I never said that," Rommel growled simply, his eyes still at a lower lever than Kuramoon's. "Now, I have food to hunt," he lied, beginning to pad off without a last look at Mur. Not that he really had to hunt. He'd just said that to get away from the brute. Now ya couldn't blame him, could ya?

Kur's eyes glazed over and remained that way until he blinked away his inside instincts, which were screaming "Pursue! Chase the fleabag!" He shook his head, before grinning again at Inky. "Watch this, pup. We wolves, we know how to start up a good meal." He raised his head, and opened his mouth. Melodious sound filled the streets. It seemed as if it lifted into the heavens, bouncing off of the moon, as he continued. It lasted for what could have been a few seconds or an eternity. Birds fluttered out from the trees at the edge of the park, and a few Walkers turned to stare at him. The long, trancing howl ended, and he lowered his gaze to meet Inky's proudly.
True, he was proud of his wolven blood. It gave him freedom. He could go back into the forest any time at all to hunt, then return full to the streets. "Let me hear you do it. Kur's a good mentor, so I can show you how it's done." He grinned at Inky.

"Err..." Inky shrugged, and...barked. A rough, hoarse noise, the only sound she really knew how to make. Again, she shrugged, lost.
"Yours was prettier."

Kur laughed. "All right, let's start from the top. Try wailing in a low tone." He instructed, giving an example. He wailed to the appearing stars, to the cresent of white and gray hanging in the sky. "It's not that hard to do. Wail like your life depended on it!" [/sup]

"Low?" mumbled Inky to herself, shaking her head. Why was she doing this, again? All the same, the little dog tilted her head back, hardly visible in the growing darkness, and gave it a try.
"Ah...Ar...Aoooouuuuuur!" A weak yelping sound escaped, not exactly nice--but it was improvement.
The terrier jumped up, tail waving. "Didja hear that?" she asked excitedly. "It worked!"

"Good. Now, take a deep breath and then do a long one." Commanded Kur, grinning. He wouldn't show his soft side to anyone, not yet. Maybe because he hadn't figured out where the heck his soft side was. To ease the burden, he did another example, doing a short howl. "Try to change the pitch by making it go lower and lower."

"Uhh..." Inky snickered once to herself. She wasn't much good at all this. Still...
"Aroooowwoooowoo..." She managed to get it lower to a point, when her throat began to feel funny and her voice began to fade away as she kept trying. Finally she stopped it--it'd been a bit longer, and lower. Not pretty, still, but she managed well enough.
"I don't think I have a low voice," Inky grinned sheepishly.
